Asst. Prof. Dr. Burcu ERMEYDAN:

Assistant Professor Dr. Burcu Ermeydan completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in Political Science and International Relations from Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus. She received her master's degree in 2016, with her thesis focusing on financial cooperation in East Asia. She earned her doctoral degree in International Relations at Kadir Has University in 2022. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the overlapping regional organizations and their place in regionalism in East Asia. During her doctoral education, she worked as a research assistant at Kadir Has University, and in 2020, she was one of the visiting researchers at Koç University Center for Asian Studies. She joined Marmara University, Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries, Department of Political Economics of the Middle East, in April 2023.

Dr. Ermeydan’s main research field is international political economy. Previously, she conducted research on economic integration, regional organizations, Chinese foreign policy, East Asia, and research methods in social sciences. Currently, she focuses on China-Türkiye relations and interregional relations between East Asia and Middle East. The methodological orientation of her research centers are mainly on discourse analysis, corpus-based text analysis, bibliometric analysis, and social network analysis.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Fatih Baha AYDIN:

Fatih Baha Aydın was born in 1990 in Üsküdar, Istanbul. He graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Economics. He did his master's degree at Birkbeck College, University of London. He received his PhD in Economic History from Marmara University. He is a faculty member at Marmara University Institute of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.

His first novel, Bihaber, was published by Ötüken Neşriyat in 2017 and was awarded both the Necip Fazıl Award and the Attilâ İlhan Award in 2018. His second novel, Karanlıkta, was published by Everest Publishing in 2019. His monographic research titled Payitahtta Bir İngiliz Tüccar, was published in 2023. His research interests include economic history and history of economic thought. He prepared and presented the programme "Edebi Sofralar" on TRT 2. His stories, essays and articles have appeared in many literary magazines. He speaks English fluently and plays the piano and tanbur.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Bedrettin TOPRAK:

Muhammet Bedrettin Toprak is an Assistant Professor of economics  and economic history at the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries at Marmara University.

Toprak's research focuses on long-term inequalities, distribution and the economic and social history of the Ottoman Empire. He has participated in and led several international academic projects;

"Impact of European Great Transformation on the Ottoman Empire in late 18th Century Onward" at Durham University, 2017.

"Consumer Revolution and Change of Consumption Patterns: an Analysis of Probate Inventories of Western Europe, Münster, Germany, 2019.

"TUBİTAK 2214 - Demography, Wealth, Distribution and Inequality: Economic and Social Structure in Ottoman Istanbul", 2020.

Asst. Prof. Dr. İpek MADİ ERKEKOĞLU

İpek Madi Erkekoğlu was graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science BSc. in Economics, and Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Economics Honours Programme. She received MSc degree in Economics from Istanbul Bilgi University. With her doctoral thesis titled "Analysis of Homo Economicus According to Middle Eastern Religions", she completed her Ph.D. degree in 2014, at Marmara University Institute Research of Middle East, Department of Political Economics of the Middle East.

She served as Teaching Assistant at Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Economics between 2005 and 2012, and as Research Assistant at Marmara University Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries, Department of Political Economics of the Middle East, between 2013 and 2021. In 2021 she became Assistant Professor in Marmara University Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries at the Department of Political Economics of the Middle East. She has been serving as the Head of the same department.

Religious Economic Thought, Islamic Economics and Economic Doctrines are among her research interests. She speaks fluently English and French.
